OROVILLE’S RECYCLING MARKET DEVELOPMENT ZONE OROVILLE, CA. JULY - TopicsExpress

OROVILLE’S RECYCLING MARKET DEVELOPMENT ZONE OROVILLE, CA. JULY 19, 2013 – The bad news is the Redevelopment Agency and the Enterprise Zones have been eliminated by the State of California. The good news is that the City of Oroville recently received a ten year extension to the Recycling Market Development Zone. The Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) program combines recycling with economic development to fuel new business, expand existing ones, create jobs, and divert waste from landfills. This program provides attractive loans, technical assistance, and free product marketing to businesses that use materials from the waste stream to manufacture their products and are located in an approved zone. Studies have concluded that recycling creates jobs and tax revenue which is good for the local economy. Here are a few facts that relate to recycling: • Recycling isn’t just putting out a few bins at the workplace – it’s what happens to that material after it is collected that the real money is made. • Recycling employs over 85,000 tax paying Californians. • Recycling generates almost $4 billion in taxable income, almost $5 billion In taxable sales and more that $10 billion in new products and services. The use of recycled materials reduces your operating costs by replacing higher-cost new items. For additional information about the RMDZ program and how it may benefit your existing or new company contact Rick Farley, Business Assistance Coordinator for the City of Oroville at (530) 538-4307 or visit the following website: calrecycle.ca.gov/rmdz A great quote from the CalRecycle site states it well, “This program is about – partnering the generator with a manufacture, not the landfill.”
