OSUN ELECTION: RESIST INTIMIDATION, BUHARI VANGUARD TELLS VOTERS The group asked voters not to be intimidated by the presence of security officers. The Buhari Vanguard has urged the people of Osun State to resist any attempt to intimidate and muscle them against their will during the August 9 gubernatorial election. In a statement, Tuesday, the group said that the actions and inactions of the electorate in Osun State on election day will determine what will happen to them in the next four years. “We reassure the people of Osun state that the eyes of both the local and international communities are focusing on Osun,” said Jasper Azuatalam, Chairman, Buhari Vanguard. “No singular act of intimidation will be treated with levity. We have alerted various local and international institutions of human right and they are keeping an eye on Osun state. Stand your ground, walk in groups and be your brother’s keeper,” Mr. Azuatalam said. The group further urged the voters not to be intimidated by the presence of thousands of troops comprising the Military, Police, SSS, Civil Defence and Customs. “As much as this is against international practices in a democratic election, President Goodluck Jonathan has insisted that it is for the protection of lives and properties in Osun State,” Mr. Azuatalam said. “We advise the people of Osun state to take the president’s words in-situ and assume he means them. “Therefore, we urge Osun people to move about their lawful duties with pride and boldness, cast their ballots for their favourite candidate and stand aside to make sure their votes are counted, recorded and announced without manipulations. They should strongly resist those that will share some cups of rice and bags of salt that will barely last for weeks to manipulate the voters and steal their destiny for four years,” he added. The group advised the Military, Police, DSS and other security personnel to exhibit utmost professionalism devoid of bias and partisanship in the discharge of their duties. “We want to remind the security agents that the comatose state the security institutions have found themselves today is as a result of inefficient and bad government caused by rigged and manipulated election,” Mr. Azuatalam said in the statement. “We think the security agents will be doing themselves lots of good by shunning partisanship and refusing to frustrate a free and fair election. “The security personnel should remember that they need to go to the hospital when they are sick, their children go to the same schools with civilians, they ply the same road with civilians, they use the same source of power with the civilians and so should shun any attempt by anyone to manipulate them to favour an unpopular candidate in the sun election and all other elections. “No matter the amount of security men and ammunition you see on the day of the election, take it that they are there to protect you. Refuse to be intimidated by the fierce looking security men, instead feel secured by their arms and ammunition. The whole world is watching. Nigerians are watching and the Almighty God will be watching too,” he added. https://premiumtimesng/regional/ssouth-west/166075-osun-election-resist-intimidation-buhari-vanguard-tells-voters.html#sthash.EMbFCVWT.dpbs
