OSWESTRY CATTLE AUCTIONS. MARKET REPORT.28:08:13. FAT CATTLE: (97) A good number of cattle throughout with the overall entry having plenty of flesh and cover with no real plain sorts about. Plenty of good heifers in the entry which shows in the average. Top slots hit 254p for Heifers 220p for Steers and Bulls. Highest price in the lump was £1243 for a steer. Bottom book was 133p for a plain friesian Bull. Overall market average of 200p was achieved. Thank you for your continued support FAT LAMBS: (2244) A smaller show of 2244 fat lambs on Wednesday 28th August 2013. The main reason for the decline being the downturn in the trade and the harvesting weather. 245 light lambs averaged 167.5p/kg with the top call being 183p/kg for 28kg lambs from H Griffiths Tyderwen making £51.20. 5385 standard lambs averaged 168.5p/kg with the top price being 179p/kg for 33kg lambs from J I Austin Maesyffynon making £59.20. The 1044 medium lambs levelled at 173p/kg with H E Pugh Grove Farm topping this section at 187p/kg or £84 for 45kg lambs. The heavies averaged 171p/kg with the overweight selling to £99.20 from T H Vaughan & Son Maesmochnant Uchaf Superlights to 148p average 147.5p Lights to 183p average 167.5p, Standards to 179p average 168.5p, Mediums to 187p average 173p, Heavy’s to 179p average 171p, Others to 172p average 169.5p. Overall average 171.5p. FAT EWES: (1008) Another good entry of ewes forward with a total clearance reported. Trade for the better ewes was just as strong however slightly less appetite for the large proportion of smaller and plainer ewes led to an overall average of £37.47. Top price went to £96 for some strong ewes from E W Williams & Gwmni, Carrog. A large show of 38 mainly younger rams averaged £37 with a top price of £72.50 for a ram sold by D I Jones, Llanfechain Please Note : All sheep entering the Market must be tagged. CALVES: (94) Similarly good numbers selling to another steady trade with best continentals marginally improved. Rearing friesians keenly contested but killers less money. Top price of the day went to a pair of Charolais x steers aged 25 months which sold for £1240 (225p/kg) from R G Ethelston, Treflach who also sold another 25 month old steer for £1200 (222p/kg) and a 14 month old steer for £1000 (202p/kg). Other notable prices included: M Morgan, Llanerfyl presented another excellent run of Charolais x heifers aged 14-16 months selling for £915 (210p/kg) and £840 (251p/kg). R R & P F Evans, Carrog deserve a mention for some good Limousin x and British Blue x steers aged 27-29 months selling for £1120 (215p/kg), £1070 (214p/kg) & £1065 (213p/kg).
