[OUR BIODIVERSITY] Did you know there is a spectacular Tiger Orchid (Grammatophyllum speciosum) blooming in the Gardens now? Just this afternoon, we counted 35 flower spikes (or sprays of flowers) growing from it – the most weve seen in a Tiger Orchid at the Gardens in more than 20 years! The worlds largest orchid, which is native to Singapore, got its common name from the markings on its flowers which resemble the stripes of a tiger. Its blooming patterns are unpredictable, sometimes flowering only once in a few years. Flowering is usually triggered by drastic weather changes, and each flower spike can last more than a month. Visit us this weekend and come see the orchid for yourself at the Koi pond near Botany Centre’s drop-off point (Tanglin Gate). :D #singaporebotanicgardens #sbgourbiodiversity #sbg #orchids #tigerorchid #weekendsinthegardens #weekend
