OUR BRAUN CHRISTMAS I remember with enjoyment, when I was just a kid, my parents making Christmas by all the things they did ..... I remember plans and secrets, excitement and suspense, and how it all was managed with a wee bit of expense. Clyde, Leona, Charles and Phyllis, with their superior ages, all did their Christmas shopping from Eatons catalog pages! Those 5 to 10 cent items were perfect for little spenders, with balls and beads and storybooks and pretty red suspenders! Those letters to old Santa, that Dale and I would write, wed mail them without postage, when the wind was blowing right! I remember how wed puzzle, (though now I have to smile), when they were found next summer, caught in the old pulppile! I remember Christmas programs at church and school wed run; they really were the centre of all the Christmas fun ... We girls would have newdresses, (homemade out of plaids), and brand new shoes, long tasseled caps,, and ribbons in our braids! Dad would curry up the horses, sometimes braiding tails and nanes ..... theymust have known twas Christmas with bells upon their hames! Hed hitch them to the long sled and then throw in some straw for all us kids to sit on ...... thered be a seat for Mom! The night was clear and frosty, and stars were shining bright .... justknowing it was Christmas made everything just right! Garnet and Arden would ride the runners and fall into the snow, then run and catch a ride again and Dad would drive quite slow! I remember neighbors gathered in the church and at the school, they crowded in the benches and on e ery seat and stool I guess, in childish ignorance, I thought they came because, theyd get a sack of candy, and see old Santa Claus! We sang the Christmas carols and heard the Christmas story, about the little Christ Child in all His wondrous glory! These memories so precious, that I recall with joy, I wish could be the heritage of every girl and boy ... I pray this happyholiday brings special joy to you, and may the Lords rich blessings be with you all year through!!
