OUR DEFENCE MECHANISM Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23) God created our body with auto-defence mechanism such that the body is capable of fighting off invading microbes that can cause disease. Internal organs like the kidney and the liver do great jobs in removing toxins that otherwise would poison the entire system and cause illness or even death. It is interesting to note that our spiritual body is similarly equipped with the capability to defend itself from invaders. The word of God, digested through daily meditation and prayer, gives our spirit the strength it requires to fight spiritual battles and prevail over the devil and the world. This is why God counsels His people to preserve our heart (spirit) with utmost care because that is where all matters concerning both carnal and spiritual life are determined. All believers must learn to pray study and believe the word of God. Apart from salvation from sin, you must also desire to have other Christian experiences, including holiness of life and baptism of the Holy Spirit. Finally, you must determine to be watchful over your spiritual life anywhere and at any time. Challenge: Arm yourself with the sword of the spirit.
