OUR HUMBLE HOMAGE TO OUR DEVOTED TEACHER! Mr. Giles - TopicsExpress

OUR HUMBLE HOMAGE TO OUR DEVOTED TEACHER! Mr. Giles Rebello is a man with a small frame, almost fragile if you notice, but a man with a very strong will power. He used to be a heavy smoker at one time, but he chucked the habit almost instantaneously on impulse. He also brought this same strong will power into his teaching. As narrated to us by him, when he first joined St. Mary’s as an English teacher, (albeit somewhat hesitatingly) on his very first day in class, he punished a boy by making him kneel down. Someone came and whispered to him, that he was punishing a police inspector’s son. He immediately replied he did not care whose son he was, in his view, the boy deserved the punishment. There used to be pin drop silence in his classroom when he would be explaining the hidden meanings of Julius Caesar or the intricacies of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Today, the 1st of September 2014, Mr. Rebello turned 90 years young! In order to honour him, 3 of us, students from the batch of 1971, went to his home yesterday evening, to felicitate him for crossing this milestone, as well as, wish him a warm “Happy Birthday”. A commemorative plaque with the official class photograph of the 1971 batch, along with a cash present collected from the batch of 1971, was handed over to him. We asked him to say a few words of advice, which he spoke and is shown in the video. A VERY BIG THANK YOU SIR!
