“OUR MAN IN THE CROWD” this week stood out in the rain on another cold wet winters day in front of the smallest crowd the Dingoes have seen this year. Putting in over $12 of coins into the parking meter so he could watch the game, he filed this report from the Peanut Farm in St Kilda Conditions werent pleasant at the Peanut Farm, and the hood over the head was by no means an attempt by the MIC to be incognito, it was in response to occasional patches of blue sky being constantly interrupted by cold, blustery squalls, grey clouds and precipitation. And, if the weather wasnt pretty, then neither was the football. But, for Dingo supporters, it was a sweet victory over an opponent that had given us more than one hiding in the early days, before the money ran out. Big Buddy dislocated a finger going for a mark early, and from then on looked a bit dislocated for the rest of the day, but still did his bit in forward line ruck contests. This gave Phil Ball an opportunity to become a viable forward target, and, in hitherto his best game for the year, ended up with 3. Down back, it was Jack Clausen who was having a blinder, and the confidence shone through when he proceeded to have as good an attacking defenders second half as weve seen for the year. Inaccuracy from set shots was again a blight, including an outrageous clanger from Bret Lavars in the goalsquare, although he redeemed himself with a couple of trademark beauties late. Apart from the magnificent, freshly prepared hamburgers, the highlight of the day for the crowd in front of the pavilion was no doubt the altercation at half time between St Kildas waterboy and umpire escort, leading to some audible profanities and an acrimonious departure by one of the antagonists. On field, Dingleys miserable goalkicking woes continued with a seven behind third quarter, but the ship was righted with a four goal to none last. Somebody commented that our best two performers on the ground to that stage had been Josh Boyle and Luke Bartholomew, although it was not possible for them to have any scoreboard impact in their respective roles as waterboy and runner. Nice to see them moving well and almost back. This was probably one of those ho-hum, only did what we had to do performances, but still, a 28 to 9 shot differential and a 49 point win is not a bad result. In the absence of tough man Jack Ades, Todd Wills continued to justify his place in the side, and Jack Williams started to find plenty of the footy. All roads lead to Souter Oval next Saturday as Dingley take on a recently resurgent St Pauls in what could be an absolute classic. With 12 down, could triskaidekaphobia be the thing that stands in the way of the Dingoes recording another stirring victory? -- Final scores: Dingley 10-18-78 def St Kilda City 4-5-29 Goalkickers: P Ball 3, Peet 3, B Lavars 2, Wills, Stock Best: Clausen, and then a raffle between Peet, Wills, P Ball, Williams, Sawers and a few others. Looking forward to being back on home soil this Saturday in what could the GAME OF THE YEAR and the possibly the Biggest crowd at a SFL Div1 game this year.
