OUR STRUGGLE IN PRAYERS The draped figure of the bronze memorial - TopicsExpress

OUR STRUGGLE IN PRAYERS The draped figure of the bronze memorial is saying something to and for all of all. It depicts our wrestling with God in our lives of prayer. God is seen as a circle without beginning or end. The wrestling figure is seen as pushing God away with one hand and pulling God forward with the other. The hands do not grip God but reach for the God that encircles us. The wrestling with God encompasses every bit of us, body, mind, and soul. The mind is depicted by the heart being part of the God-circle. The soul has been pierced by the sword of the Spirit of God, depicted by the hole through the chest area. The body is depicted not only by the thrusting/ pulling hands, but the energy of the struggle in the muscles and actions through the limbs. This is a memorial to Bishop Shevil (Bishop of Newcastle, 1973-1977, but it is also a memorial to all who seek God in prayer.
