OVER ONE MILLION NIGERIANS DIS-ENFRANCHISED DURING ELECTION; ZAMFARA REC. Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner Jubril Ibrahim Zarewa told Journalists in an interview after a one day interactive session with the representatives of the registered political parties in Gusau that, over one million Nigerians who are eligible to cast their votes do not have that chance because they are involved in the election exercise. Jubril Zarewa who described those people to includes INEC staff, adhoc-workers engaged by the commission for the conduct of the election as well as members of the civil society organizations and media practitioners involved in election coverage maintained that because of the demanding nature of their jobs during the election days, they always don’t have the ample opportunity to cast their votes. But the commissioner further explained that, the commission in conjunction with the national assembly is working out modalities to see to the possibility of amending the nation’s electoral acts to pave way for these classes of citizens to exercise their constitutional right ahead of the election date. He said INEC will remain resolute in conducting free and fair elections in the year 2015 despites what Nigerians may say about the commission.
