Obama Approval Ratings Are Grim President Obama’s approval ratings have sunk to figures matching his lowest in two years, with 49 percent of respondents in the latest New York Times/CBS news poll disapproving of the president’s job performance and only 30 percent expressing belief that Obama cares “a lot” about their needs and problems. More respondents disapproved than approved of Obama’s performance on topics across the board, including foreign policy, health care, the economy, and the federal budget deficit. But not all is lost: despite the low numbers, the majority of Americans still are against Republicans’ effort to stop funding for Obama’s health-care program, set to go into place next month. Fifty-six percent of Americans would prefer that Congress uphold the health law and make it work as well as possible.
