Obamas political incompetence has a very good chance of costing - TopicsExpress

Obamas political incompetence has a very good chance of costing the Democratic party dearly in this political cycle. It is not that Americans trust Republicans as agents of change but that his personality and work style are anathema to all. He is professorial, deliberate, he accepts both sides as reasonable, and he has a deliberate management style that makes it appear as if he does nothing when he is not. Yet he does not get it that he has been the problem all along. He wanted to be a post-partisan political leader and yet never understood his opponents were committed not to governing but to his destruction. His personality detests retail politics. He is cerebral. He understands not both sides but all sides. Yet he cannot see or understand reality; only his hope that his policies will alter a reality. Whether it be domestic politics or foreign policy he is often wrong on reality, even if he supports the right policies. He has accomplished a fair amount from a policy perspective. But politically he is a disaster. His Israeli/Palestinian policies not only are based on fantasy but may have domestic political repercussions that may well have effects on the Democratic party. On the ground, they give terrorists support and comfort. He has no sense of cause and effect. He saw the Arab spring as a democratic opportunity without any sense that the opportunity would in the end sacrifice the democratic aspirations of a small minority while fulfilling the totalitarian aspirations of fundamentalists. Because he has no understanding of foreign policy he has a severely flawed foreign policy. He is not responsible for ISIS but he has few answers to it that do not require the US to be the sole hammer causing ISIS demise. He has pressured Israel because he has a misunderstanding of peace, what it requires and what stands in its way. He has a naïve understanding of foreign policy, akin to most college freshmen. Foreign policy is not based on hope in the kindness of strangers or even on democratic principals. It is based on reality and realpolitik.
