TW As President Barack Obama takes a break from making stump speeches to head out to Martha’s Vineyard, his approval rating has reached a new low for 2013, according to a new Fox News poll. The poll, which was released Wednesday, found that only 42 percent of Americans approve of the president’s job performance – a decrease of four points over just the past two weeks and seven points lower than his 2013 high back in February. The president is also struggling right now among independents, as only 32 percent of them approve of his performance in office right now. Moreover, 52 percent of Americans are unhappy with his job as president, the highest it’s been in more than a year. So what brought about this sudden change? According to the study it’s because the president remains all talk and no action. Six in ten Americans would rather see the president engaged in debate with top Congressional leaders to enact new economic policies, rather than the president’s preferred custom of traveling the country and making elaborate economic policy speeches on a near-daily basis. In fact, only 24 percent of Americans think the latter’s the best way for the president to go about solving the nation’s economic problems. It also doesn’t help that the president’s not introducing anything new in these speeches. Seven in ten Americans believe that the president has just been reiterating his positions on the American economy in each of his stump speeches without bringing anything new to the table, according to the poll. Already this week the president has made several speeches referring to his economic policy agenda, including a speech Tuesday in Phoenix, Ariz. and Wednesday at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. He even found the time to discuss a variety of issues – including the economy, his love of broccoli and his failure to understand basic American geography – on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Tuesday. The White House also announced Thursday that the president plans on holding a news conference Friday before embarking on his Martha’s Vineyard trip.
