Obedience Obedience…I sigh when I hear the word. Not because I don’t like it but because most of us just don’t get it. Obedience is not just about saying, “Yes I will do it” any of us can do that. It’s about saying “Yes, I will do it” see the difference. No. Let me help you. The pause after the yes in second response represents that millisecond when you decided you will not only do it but continue to it if need be. See many times we say yes to something that our heart isn’t really in so when we think we’ve done enough, had enough, put up with enough we quit. And in our own defense we say, “we did it”, never admitting that we only ever put a half hearted effort in our “doing” because our whole heart was never really in it to begin with. It’s kind of like losing weight, you can lose but can you keep it off. Ok I’ll put it another way…how often do you get on your knees, pray for something, then when the first glimmer of hope is seen or the first wave of relief is felt, you shelf God, tell Him you got it and take off running? See your heart was in the answered prayer not in the work required to get there. So now I ask you this, “How’d that work out for you, you know your way?” Not too good huh. Next time you see some sort of hope, feel a slight bit of relief, don’t put God behind the “break in case of emergency” glass, hold on to Him tighter and allow Him to keep guiding you. Your reward isn’t from being obedient, it is in the obedience. You know the continuance part of the word, the verb part of the word, the action part, not the adjective part that describes the one time occurrence. Now comes your choice, keep putting Him back on the shelf with half your heart or keep letting Him guide you with your whole heart, action anyone? Choose wisely. Believe! 1 Samuel 15:22 Then Samuel said, “Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as He does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice; paying attention is better than the fat of rams. Grounded In Love, WOSG womenonsolidground.org
