Obi Calls for sustenance of partnership with the EU Governor Peter Obi has stressed the need for the future administration to sustain the existing partnership with European Union and other development partners. Governor Obi was speaking during a cultural night organized in honour of the out-going EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr David MacRae at the Governor’s Lodge at the weekend. Governor Obi said the partnership had enabled the State to fill budgetary gaps because of its lean resources and enjoined the incoming administration to ensure prompt payment of counter-part contributions, prudent and transparent management of resources to achieve the set goals. He restated that his administration has not borrowed since inception, it not owing and has remained the most financially stable in the country. The out-going EU Ambassador, Dr. Macrae said the Governor had laid solid legacy of good governance through successful implementation of the multi-sectorial programmes of ANIDS which he noted has transformed the entire State and made a reference point in the country. He observed that Anambra today stands out among the six focal states benefiting from the EU programmes and expressed the hope that the Governor’s successor would maintain the partnership. Speaking, the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Water Resources and Community Development, Mr. Emeka Nwankwu said the Obi administration had, among other things, provided over four hundred boreholes in secondary schools and health centres and rehabilitated twenty-nine out of seventy three collapsed water schemes across the State. The State Authorizing officer for EU Programmes ad Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Prof. Chinyere Okunna said the State collaboration with EU had boost intervention in Water and Sanitation Sectors which she noted had brightened the chances of achieving the MillenniumDevelopment Goals. Professor Okunna explained that Governor Obi’s administration has continued to attract and sustained partners because of its transparency, prudent and skillful management of resources and commitment to people oriented programmes and projects as well as harmonious working relationship with other arms of government, traditional rulers and town union executives.
