Obi Receives Papal Honour & Award In appreciation for his good work & personification of sound Christian principles in public service & his fruitful collaboration wit De Church, de 4mer Governor of Anambra State has been awarded de Pontifical Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester, Pope & Marty. Dis order is one of 5 Orders of Knighthood awarded directly by de Pope as Supreme Pontiff & head of de Catholic Church & as Head of State of de Vatican City. De Investiture will take place 2day at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka. Many Bishops & priests are expected at a pontifical mass to mark De event. De award which was usually on de recommendation of de Papal Nuncio or de person’s Diocesan Bishop, in Obi’s case, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, is usually a call for greater service to the Church & humanity is associated wit gr8 privileges & dignity. Though de award was granted by Pope Francis 1 to Mr. Peter Obi on the 31st of July, 2013, he delayed de investiture, preferring dat it should be done after he has left office in line with his belief that honours & dignities that re not time-bound re better granted after one leaves office to allow for more objective assessment of the person. Reacting to de development, de Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor congratulated Obi on de award & described it as an honour most deserving. He said that Obi as de governor of Anambra State was able to deliver democracy dividends to de 177 communities in Anambra State & rehabilitated a whole lot of schools and hospitals and even built new ones. He recalled that Obi returned schools to their original owners, the Church, adding that Obi’s foresightedness placed Anambra State where it was today. He stated that de recommendation to de Supreme Pontiff was borne out of Obis humble disposition & de great role he played in dislodging people of questionable character from the state, return of school to de Churches & for ensuring that Ndi Anambra remained de pace setters both in education & commerce. In de same vein the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, His Lordship Most Rev Hilary Odili Okeke who was obviously short of words in a telephone chat described Obi’s papal knight award as simply great, awesome and deserving. Obi will be honoured today 21st December, with his Commissioner for Works, Arc. Callistus Ilozumba with de same award & de Catholic Church in Awka Diocese will use de opportunity of de investiture to say a big thank u to Obi for offering Purposeful leadership to the state for 8 years. Kudos Okwute!!!
