Obiano: APGA will grow from strength to strength 0 By Our Reporter on October 23, 2014 · COVER The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has assured members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), that his administration is totally committed to building the party into a strong and dominant political platform that will provide a viable alternative to all Nigerians, who desire a new and progressive paradigm of leadership. Addressing a crowd of councilors and ward chairmen from the 326 wards in the state, who paid him a solidarity visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, yesterday, Governor Obiano maintained that of all the political parties in Nigeria, APGA stood out as the one with the most compelling ideology that emphasised the supremacy of Nigerians being their brothers’ keepers. In apparent reaction to the recent defections from the party to rival parties in the country, Governor Obiano re-assured party faithful that APGA was growing stronger by the day as more than 3,000 members of opposition parties in the state recently defected to swell the membership strength of the party. According to him, APGA remained the most viable political platform for Ndigbo at all times as its principles complement the core values of the people of the South East and the South South states of Nigeria. Chief Obiano also stated the determination of the party’s leadership to demonstrate its dominance and grassroots appeal in the coming elections, boasting that APGA would sweep all the elective positions in the state and still go ahead to vote overwhelmingly for President Goodluck Jonathan, to ensure that he clinches a second term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The governor urged the councilors to ensure that they hold regular meetings and interactive sessions with members in various wards and local government areas in order to harness ideas on the growth of the party, while staying focused on the overall goals of the party. To facilitate effective mobilisation of the electorate in the coming elections, Governor Obiano also handed out 21 brand new buses to the legislative councils in Anambra State. Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo, enjoined the councilors to take the governor’s principles of good governance down to the grassroots. The commissioner also urged them to emulate the governor’s commitment and dedication to duty. Speaking on behalf of the councilors, Mr. Chukwudi Okwuma thanked the governor for giving them a sense of belonging and playing up their relevance in the party’s hierarchy. He assured Governor Obiano that the councilors would continue to lend their total support to ensure that his vision for Anambra State was fully realised. Also speaking, the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government, Chief Victor Agolue, observed that the governor had provided a solid springboard for APGA candidates to excel in the coming elections through his landmark achievements within a reasonably short time. Similarly, the Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Council, Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor, described APGA as a great vehicle to achieve the Igbo’s aspirations to reclaim their rightful place in national affairs. Mr. Ejiofor observed that the governor had revived internal democracy and cohesion within the party by upholding its core ideology. In his remarks, the governor’s liaison officer for Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Mr. Austin Enemuo, noted that Governor Obiano has strengthened all necessary logistics for the party to function effectively, stressing that as a political movement, APGA had justified the confidence of the people in it.
