Obituary for Charles Bud Haas Charles A. (Bud) Haas, Jr. was called by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born May 1, 1927 in Rolla, MO to Charles A. and Matilda (Waltz) Haas. On April 16, 1949 he married Betty Louise (Taylor) Haas. Charles served on active duty with the United States Navy as Seaman First Class from August 23, 1945 through August 14, 1946, and with the Navy Reserves from December 11, 1947 through December 10, 1952. He began a lifelong career as an automobile mechanic in 1946 at Williams Auto Service in Rolla. In 1976 he purchased Williams Auto Service and continued running the business until his retirement in 1989. During the 43 years he worked at and owned the business he became known by the Rolla community as one of the most honest, reliable, and respected auto mechanics in the area. In addition to his business, he owned and operated his farm where he raised cattle and horses for many years. Charles was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making many gifts for family and friends. When he had the time, he found relaxation fishing at one of his ponds. But he always had time to teach his 5 grandchildren how to fish and bait their hook. Charles was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a Charter Member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla and was very active in the operation of the church. Charles will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend by anyone who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a story. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Matilda (Waltz) Haas, step-mother Marguerite (Pursey) Haas and sisters, Clara Naomi Meschke and Alma Nadine Love. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Betty (Taylor) Haas, son Gary L. Haas, daughter Julie A. King and husband Tim, and son Ted J. Haas and wife Paula, sisters Anna Mary Pillow and Sharon Hackley and husband Joe, five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A visitation service will be held Friday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Funeral Home of Rolla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rolla, MO.
