Obituary for Doug Griswold Mr. James Douglas “Doug” Griswold, age 76 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Capital Region Medical Center. Doug was born November 28, 1938 in Fortuna, Mo. the son of Orie Vincent and Kathleen Norris Kays Griswold. He was married on June 12, 1959 in Lebanon, Kentucky to Mary Adelene Crawford. Doug was a 1956 graduate of Tipton High School and attended Central Missouri State University. He was a 1959 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. In 1959 he was employed by the Palmer Funeral Home in Lebanon, Mo.; and from 1962 until 1968, he was employed with the Chapel of Flowers Mortuary in San Jose, California. From 1968 until his retirement in 2001 Doug owned and operated Griswold-Kays Funeral Home in Eldon, Mo. In 1990 he became a partner in the Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home in Tipton until 2000. He also owned and operated C. & G. Real Estate Company in Eldon for twenty-five years and was a partner in 5 Diamonds. Doug served as the Miller County Medical Examiner for twelve years. He was a member and deacon at Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City and had been a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Eldon, Mo. He was a lifelong member of the Eldon Kiwanis Club and a member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the Jefferson City YMCA Tennis Group and was active in Living in Retirement. He also enjoyed trout fishing, coffee with his buddies every morning at McDonald’s, playing cards, and wintering in Florida. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of fifty-five years, Mary A. Griswold; one daughter, Mara Campbell and her husband Carter of Jefferson City, Mo; one brother, Joe Griswold and his wife Joyce of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, TarAnn Barrett and her husband Mike of Florissant, Mo, Abbey Campbell of Waco, Texas, Kara Vernon of Overland Park, Kansas, and Rob Vernon of Jefferson City, Mo.; one great-granddaughter, Linden Campbell Barrett; two brothers-in-law, Mac Crawford and his wife Terri of Lexington, Kentucky and James Crawford of Danville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ferrell and her husband Darrell of Danville, Kentucky and Martha Brackett of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Bradley Griswold on July 22, 1978. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Southridge Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Ron Zamkus officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Eldon City Cemetery, Eldon, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Southridge Baptist Church.
