Obituary for Edith K. Swartz Edith K. Swartz, 90, of State Highway 10, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 21, 2014, at her home with her family at her side. Born February 2, 1924 in the Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Rachel Bellinger King. In 1941 she graduated from Ft. Plain High School and later Mildred Elley School of Business. Edith was employed as a secretary for the employment office at Beach Nut in Canajoharie for many years. As a legal secretary she worked for various lawyers in Ft. Plain and served as Secretary of the former Swartz Funeral Home in Ft. Plain. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 297, Ft. Plain; Advisory Board of Arkell Hall; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ft. Plain and a member and past President of the Dorcus Society of the church. Edith enjoyed gardening, crafts and loved to travel. On March 2, 1946 she married Roger H. Swartz who passed away May 31, 2012. Survivors include her two sons, David James Swartz and James Dennis (Deborah) Swartz both of Palatine; a granddaughter, Stacey Swartz Mackes and her husband Phillip of Herkimer; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Landon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 26, 2014 at 11:00am at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Burial will take place at the Ft. Plain Cemetery. Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home with an Eastern Star service to be held at 6:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Edith’s memory to the Alzheimer Association of NY, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205-5515 or to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 36 Lydius Street, Ft. Plain, NY 13339.
