Tonight I have been listenig to the most downloaded local Spaza traq coined by Axo Uphambene tittled Cape Game Thousands of young people mostly in Cape Town who has interest or follow Spaza have been talking about this song. Identities performed in this song and the story line caught my attention. Some people who are not into Spaza might not like the content of this song but can appreciate the creativity displayed and how language is used by Axo -Axolile Ngumane in his Spaza song. Cape Town Spaza music is a localised poetic genre born out of Hip Hop mainly done by urban youth expressing their thoughts and creativity in local youth languages and in isiXhosa. However, Spaza music is also making waves in the Eastern Cape. I will assume the Spaza name represent the locality of this genre as in the townships community grocery informal stores are known as SPAZA shops. Spaza music is a social movement that has norms embedded in social life style, language, clothes and multiple identities of those who are memebers of this youth culture. It is amazing how Axo has deviated from some of the norms and introduced smart wear and gentleness to the movement. I have always had interest in Spaza music as a fan. My interest has always been on how creatively oral language and sometimes gestures are used in this music and as Spaza music as an urban streetwise youth CULTURE. Although I am very selective on the content I want to listen to. As some songs turn to be not good for my ears. Now Axo Uphambene Backyard who has about 4982 fan on facebooks and his Cape Game song that have more than 15 000 downloads according to him. This guy know how to use social media for marketing purposes. He has managed to bring his fans closer to him by engaging them daily and being honest about who he is. He has been labelled as a Coconut on facebook by one of his followers. It is argued this came up because of his behavour on social spaces. Does anyone qualify to label people? His first phrase in this song says bafana (boys in this context) move back suggesting that the KING has arrive. He further claims that he is the Cape Game - the best SPAZA artist in Cape Town because of his good music and having set new trends in the Spaza scene. Cape Game is all about about Axo and his relationship issues with his friends and his previous recording label. Apparently he left the local stable and started his own stable iWORKS music which is a good thing I believe. However, there is more to his move. More about young man issues and girls according to the song. I have found it very interesting how he expresses his anger, aspirations, joy, love, power, creativity, frustrations and deal with individuals in this one songs in a very creative way by telling his story. I assume he felt at ease after releasing the song. Music is healing. I felt different emotions in his bars. His creative got me hooked in the song rather than lyrics. He uses language beautifuly. He has received good comments or reviews although there are handful young people in pockets that are not happy about the song. Some have taken theirr unhappiness about the song to facebook. The unhappiness is about the content of the song. However, Axo has responded to them. Again it is amazing how this local artist is dealing with people simply by responding to them accordingly. He will soon release another free download song soon. He is a very talented young guy who can make it nationally. The next step for him would be to grow his brand to a national level delivering a content that will be relevent to many young people outside CAPE TOWN. Perhaps he can forget about records BEEF songs as much as they create hype but the problem is numbers and geographical reach. He has proven that he is talented now we know.
