Occlusion training.. Also known as Blood Flow Restriction - TopicsExpress

Occlusion training.. Also known as Blood Flow Restriction Training, or BFR. It is an excellent tool to add to your arsenal of muscle growth. How does it work?? By restricting the muscle with a knee wrap or other tension wrap you are restricting blood flow. But that doesnt sound like a logical thing for exercise since we want to Maximize blood flow.. The important thing to keep in mind is you DONT want to fully restrict blood flow. With some tension you will restrict only the veins as they do not have as much pressure as arteries so blood can flow from the heart to the muscle but cant leave the muscle once it enters. Therefore causing an extreme pump. With this mass flow of fluid into the muscle cells they have 2 options.. Burst or grow! When you exercise, your muscles build up IGF-1 and Growth Hormone to help growth but the veins flush the blood out quickly so the hormones dont stay in the muscle long. BFR keeps the muscle flooded for the duration of time you tie it off; so you maintain maximum blood flow to the tissue for an extended period of time causing major increase in muscle growth. As you see I just pumped the weight at the end moving only a few inches once I reached failure. In typical weight training; studies show that the eccentric or lowering of the weight causes the most muscle growth but with BFR the concentric or contracting of the muscle causes the most growth an thus pumping out reps/ partial reps to flood the tissue with blood is most effective. @boomapparelworldwide
