【Occupy British CG HK Group will Give Evidence in the UK Parliament this Afternoon】 (Reported by Christopher Ho, Translated by Chapman Chen) The Hong Kong demonstrators that have been camping outside the British Consulate-General Hong Kong have sent two representatives to the United Kingdom. They will attend the inquiry hearing held by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons on the thirtieth anniversary of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. They will urge the UK to take actions concerning China’s violation of the Joint Declaration. The hearing will take place at 14:00 London time today. However, the Occupy British Consulate-General Action Group has not yet made public details of the hearing. Mr. Daniel Ma, who initiated the action of “occupying” British CG HK on 3rd October, disclosed last week on his facebook wall that he would attend a hearing held by the British Parliament and tried to raise funds online for two air tickets. Subsequently, he said that he could not personally fly to England due to a problem with his passport, that two of his comrades in the action of Occupy British CG would go instead, and that the money raised online would be used to pay for their air tickets. At around 21:00 last evening, the Action Group issued a press release and some photos to certain Hong Kong internet media, indicating that the two representatives were going to attend the hearing held by the Foreign Affairs Committee at 14:00 London time today. The theme of the hearing is the thirtieth anniversary of the signing of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. The two representatives will submit a petition letter on China’s violation of the Joint Declaration. The reporter of Local Press has gathered that the House of Commons has indeed indicated on its webpage that the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold the hearing concerned today afternoon, but the list of witnesses does not include any Hongkonger. Probably the arrangement for Hong Kong representatives to attend the inquiry has been made in such a hurry that the British side has not yet reached a conclusion. Mr. Ma, who stays in Hong Kong to plan as a whole the petition, tells the reporter that as the a signatory to the Sino-British Joint Declaration, the UK has the constitutional responsibility to monitor the implementation of this international treaty and to take appropriate actions when China violates the agreement. So much the more, one half of Hong Kong’s population being British overseas national, the UK cannot neglect these subjects of hers. Mr. Ma also thinks that the Hong Kong representatives’ being invited to give evidence in the British Parliament proves that the two months’ effort of “occupying” British CG HK is not wasted. The action group responsible for this petition and its support have not disclosed the statuses of the delegates and other relevant details. At this stage, Local Press cannot gather more information. But Mr. Ma and his colleagues indicate that they will brief the mass media more about the contents of the petition letter later on today.
