Oct. 13, 2014, late afternoon, rural Northumberland County, New Brunswick, a beaver pond and beaver-cut trees. Quite the sight! Beavers cut trees with their teeth and build their dams, some trees I have seen being 2-3 feet in diameter. Master engineers, dams I have seen as wide as a quarter mile. They have back-up dams, in case one breaks. The dam pictured here would go back possibly half a mile or more and be quite deep.
