October 19, 2014 - Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church! In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray that your soul will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through his Son, Jesus Christ. Our congregation also operates a Lutheran school for students in Junior K through eighth grade. If you would like to learn more about our church or school, please contact one of our pastors, the principal, or another representative of our church or school. They would be happy to assist you. Information * A staffed nursery is located in the very back of the church lobby. Volunteers are available during both services and the Bible study hour to care for children up through three years of age. * Reserved seating for families with young children is available in the back three pews on both sides of the sanctuary. Please keep these pews reserved for families even if you have arrived late. * Hearing assistance is available. Personal listening devices are available in the church entryway for anyone who may have difficulty hearing the service. Please ask an usher for more information. The sanctuary is also “looped” for those whose hearing aids can pick up the signal. * Large print service booklets are available on the shelf along the side wall in the church lobby. * Children’s activity sheets are also available on the shelf in the church lobby. Parents may pick up a copy for their young children to use during the service. * Cell phones should be turned off or put on vibrate mode so as not to disrupt others during the service. Thank you for your cooperation. * Registration cards are given to all families and individuals along with this worship booklet as they enter the church. One side of the registration card is for members; the other side is for visitors. The cards are collected after the sermon during the offering, when they are handed in toward the center aisle. If time permits, please fill out your card prior to the start of the service. Visitors may also use this form to tell us about themselves or to make a request. * Coffee is served between services in the church lobby or, weather permitting, outside in the rose garden. We invite everyone to join us for a time of fellowship between today’s services. Season of the Church Year We are presently in the Pentecost season of the church year. Pentecost Day (Acts 2:1-21) is celebrated seven Sundays after Easter Day. The Sundays after Pentecost emphasize the life of the Church and the life of the Christian in light of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Focus of Today’s Service Today is the second of two successive stewardship-focused services at St. Mark’s. This morning we will consider how godly stewardship of our resources can be a blessing not only for our local congregation but also for the work of the Lord beyond our church walls. May God guide us by his Word and inspire us by his grace to be faithful managers of his daily gifts to us! Participation in the Lord’s Supper The Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion, will be celebrated in today’s service. The Bible teaches us that in the Lord’s Supper Jesus gives us his body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. It also teaches that receiving the Lord’s Supper together is a public statement of our complete unity of faith. For this reason, we invite to Holy Communion members of St. Mark’s or members of one of our sister congregations in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) or the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS). If you are a guest from another Lutheran denomination or another Christian church, we don’t want to be presumptuous and put you in the position of stating your agreement with our beliefs before you have had a chance to learn more. For more information about communing with us in the future, please speak to one of our pastors after the service. We look forward to any opportunity to discuss the Christian faith with you and to work toward a common confession of faith!
