October 22…….. Funding for Fort Braggs 440th Airlift Wing is now scheduled to end in March, shortening the unit’s budget, which had been scheduled through September. However, the unit will continue to operated normally until congress directs them otherwise. The 440th has around 12-hundred airman, and has an estimated $77 million economic imput on the local community. The Air Force marked the 440th for inactivation earlier this year, a move that has been fought by local business leaders and the local congressional delegation. All C-130 movement has been put on hold, and decisions are not likely to be made until after the November elections. U.S. Senator Kay Hagan has pushed an amendment that would delay the inactivation. If approved, the amendment would restrict the military from moving the C-130’s until 60 days after the Air Force submits a detailed report to Congress, and the report is studied by the Government Accountability Office.
