October 29, 1983 – 31 Years Ago Today: Linda Ronstadt and The Nelson Riddle Orchestra debuted at No. 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the single, “What’s New.” This was the lead-off single and title track from her upcoming album of standards which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple-Platinum. The single only managed to reach No. 53 on December 17, 1983 and was a Top 5 hit on the Billboard AC chart. The enormous success of Ronstadt & Riddle’s collaboration forced them to record two additional consecutive albums, “Lush Life” and “For Sentimental Reasons” which were released in 1984 and 1986, respectively. She also released the three albums as a Deluxe Set the same date as the third installment which was titled, “’Round Midnight.” Original picture sleeve posted below on this music page.
