October 2nd is my Birthday. I will be 48. I have a busy day and I will be away from my family all day. I will leave for work before anyone is up. I will spend the day at work and head to class in the evening. I will not be home until after 10pm. But there is an hour at lunch time I will spend with my Toastmasters club. I am going to share with them the first birthday I spent away from my family. It was 1983 and I turned 17. I was sponsored by Schwinn and was spending the weekend racing in Southern Missouri and Northern Oklahoma. There we 4 triple point races and I raced 2 classes at each race. I brought home six 1st place finishes a 2nd and a 3rd. Not a bad weekend. There were many families from KC that were also at the races that weekend and they found out about my birthday. One of the parents went to a Cookie Factory and bought me a Birthday Cookie. I have a photo of it somewhere. When I was given the cookie, this 17 year old started crying because my BMX family wanted me to feel special on my Birthday. And I did. Tomorrow I will share this story with others and we are going to enjoy the cookie I had made. I hope this message of THANK YOU gets to some of those people that were there 31 years ago. For those of you that are away from your family on your Birthday. I hope you have a wonderful and special day anyway. I know I will and may God bless you all.
