October 30 marked the End of Mission for the 8th Portuguese Contingent to ISAF. We thank you, armed forces of Portugal, for all your support. Following are some words from hour honored allies.: “8th Portuguese Contingent in Afghanistan. We are now closing a cycle, Portuguese Contingent participation in Afghanistan lasted 12 years, approximately 3200 military personnel have been deployed since 2002. Time goes really fast, it seems that we arrived yesterday; however looking back there is a twelve year old, Portuguese footprint in Afghanistan. Tears were often shared with other ISAF comrades; happiness and effectiveness were also shaping our daily life. Afghanistan contemporary history is opening a new chapter; and we are happy to have been a part of this story. Long Life to Afghanistan.”
