October 5, 1975 - Cats in the Cradle was released by Harry Chapin. Harry Chapin was a singer-songwriter as well as a humanitarian who worked to end world hunger. The songs hes best known for tell stories, often of sadness, disappointment; people who fell short in life and are living a life below where they wanted to be. A taxi driver who wanted to learn to fly, picks up an old flame who wanted to be a star and made it to the big time, maybe find it wasnt what she thought it would be. It as if fate was giving him a second chance. They connect, but again, he lets his last maybe go by. A DJ who lives on the road going from station to station, alone because following his dream meant giving up his life and family. He tries to reconnect, give up the gypsy life on the road and settle down, win his love and family back, only to find out its too late. A businessman, archetypal Hard Charger throws himself into his career and misses his son growing up only to find that when he has tie, his son has become him and has no time to spend connecting with him. If you are feeling depressed and lonely, you do not want to play Harry Chapin, but his songs are worth listening to, a slice of what life is like for some who dont quite make the right choices, who follow the wrong dreams. Like so many musicians and creative people, Harry Chapin did not live to a ripe old age, dying in 1981 at 38. He died of a heart attack while driving and was hit by a tractor trailer truck. In the hospital they were unable to revive him. In 1987 he was postumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his work on social issues, his role in the creation of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger in 1977, and his work to fight world hunger. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Chapin#Recording_career
