He announced God’s blessings if the people repented and obeyed God’s commands, and then told the people what the price of their disobedience would be if they rebelled against God. After Samuel called on God for thunder and rain, as a testimony of his prophecy, which God performed, the people pleaded with Samuel. Look at what they asked Samuel! 1 Samuel 12:19 NIV 19 The people all said to Samuel, Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.” It is interesting that the people did not say “Pray to the Lord our God.” The chosen people of God where still rebellious and stiff-necked. They had allowed idolatry into their culture and God had held the people responsible. Then Samuel gave the people direction as you will see in the verses for today. Verse of the Day 1 Samuel 12:20-21 NIV 20 Do not be afraid, Samuel replied. You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. 21 Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless
