October Update October was amazing!! We adopted 64 dogs and cats to new homes. Our total adoptions for this year is 1131 with 666 dogs and 465 cats finding new homes. Last year we adopted 1166. As usual we had many new animals that needed lots of care. We treated 6 dogs for heartworms. Diamond and Kai recovered nicely from Parvo. Chad, our 12 year old boy, had to have almost all of his teeth removed due to horrible dental conditions. Midnight, our 12 year old poodle, is still recovering from pneumonia. Bamboo came in with very bad eyes. It was found that he had an infection as a pup that was not treated and his eyes did not develop. One of the eyes had to be removed. He has not had any vision since birth so he gets around pretty well and is a happy little guy. Olive and Lydia are recovering well from being hit by a car. Both had broken pelviss that are slowly healing. Gertie came in with demodex mange and is receiving treatment. We lost little Kessel to cancer and Hanney was also diagnosed with a malignant cancer in her urethra. Hanney is in hospice care. Atlas is a huge Akita that is blind. His eyes are a mess as is his skin. He is really fun to give a medicated bath! After having a terrible eye virus our brother kitties, Tang and Marmalade were adopted together this weekend! It was a miracle that both did not lose their sight. They are beautiful. Im sure I missed someone-there was so many. October will go down in history with Partners For Pets. We got a new shelter!! In Sept. we were the successful bidders for a property just 2 miles north of the old shelter. We closed in October! It has been a whirlwind month trying to get everything in place for the new shelter. Big thank you to all the wonderful people that donated to help us with our downpayment. Big plans are underway! The new shelter could fit 4 of our little shelter in it so we are all very excited to get the renovations needed for the new shelter done so we can move. Spengler Heating and Cooling has been out to measure for the new building already. The timing of the contest we won with them was perfect. Now just keep your fingers crossed our old system holds out til we move. We had lots of events this month. Beside adoption events every weekend at PetSmart we had adoption events at the State Beauty Supply and the Moose of Edwardsville. Thank you for having us. Our supply drive was successful with many items donated. The road block was a huge success! The Howloween Pet Party at FCB Bank in Troy was grerat!! Thank you to FCB and all the vendors that came with their booths. I got to talk and take a pup to the Troy Post Office for the Federal Combined Federal Campaign. If you or someone you know is a Federal employee you can pick Partners For Pets as their charity. Dont forget Trivia is Nov. 8 at the St. Gregory Armenian Hall in Granite City. You can go online and sign up or pay at the door. Thank you to all the volunteers, staff, fosters and adopters that make this possible. Have a good November! Lisa McCormick, Director
