October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month Prevention vs. Early Detection As we roll into Breast Cancer Awareness Month you will undoubtedly see pink ribbons, pink banners and all manners of communication encouraging women to undergo mammography. However, mammograms don’t PREVENT breast cancer. They help to detect cancer early, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful intervention, but true PREVENTION occurs way upstream. To the best of our knowledge today, breast cancer requires both estrogen and progesterone to develop. These hormones are part of a woman’s normal healthy menstrual cycle and some combination of environmental triggers (think food, toxins, lifestyle, stress) and hormonal disruption (also caused by food, toxins, lifestyle and stress) leads to the development of breast cancer. I invite you to visit The Breast Cancer Fund an organization that goes beyond awareness and early detection to help identify the cause and thereby empower women (and men) to take steps to truly PREVENT breast cancer. Review this site and see what steps you can take TODAY to minimize your risks!
