Octoberfest Celebration in Bangalore @ Taj Vivanta M.G. Road, on 25/October/2014. Organised by the Indo-German Cultural association. Lots of people, great band from Bavaria who have returned to Bangalore and for the 10 year in succession, people drinking jugs and jugs of the free beer on offer, German food including frankfurters and some Indian delicacies like paneer tandoori (for the fusion effect ?). And then there was the dancing ! Now, being a special invitee of the Indo-German cultural association and Mr. Haldar, I was at first exited. Then I baulked, as I ido not drink beer nor hog on non-veg food, but inspite of my shyness, I went anyway. I am very happy I did. It was an amazing event and I had an especial experience with the people. I met old friends and associates, met new ones from all over the world and indeed, enjoyed the two hours I was there ! From an events studies viewpoint, the sense of communitas (Getz, 2008) achieved in such an event is remarkable. The only defecit, according to me, was a lack of an interpreter. Imagine having someone explain the song/tune before hand: we who do not know German would have had a better appreciation of the music !
