Odile is now a tropical storm with 60 mph winds and will continue - TopicsExpress

Odile is now a tropical storm with 60 mph winds and will continue moving north into the Gulf of California today. Odile will weaken to a tropical depression before it moves into southern Arizona, so strong winds are not a concern at this point. An outer rainband has dropped a few tenths of an inch of rain early this morning, with additional showers and storms expected through this afternoon and evening. The bulk of our rainfall will move in between Wednesday and Thursday as Odiles remnants track across the area. Odile will depart the region on Friday, but enough moisture will linger to produce additional showers and storms, although with reduced coverage. Finally, a lot of interest is surrounding this system. While this is certainly a significant event for Arizona and flash flooding is anticipated this week, we wanted to put the potential impacts in perspective: if your area typically sees flooding from a major monsoon storm, take necessary precautions. Otherwise, the most important thing to keep in mind is to NEVER drive into a flooded roadway. We had 2 fatalities in the Norbert event and we dont want to see you being rescued, or something worse happening to you on the evening news.
