Odisha seeks FI in IT Bhubaneswar : 24/ January/2014 Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while seeking foreign investment in the Information Technology (IT) and Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors for Odisha, said that the State Government is committed to creating an Open Environment in this sector. To accommodate the future development in IT and ESDM sectors, the State Government is developing one IT Investment Region (ITIR) in the Southern part of Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik said while inaugurating the annual eOdisha summit here. eOdisha Summit, a mega IT event is organized by Department of Information Technology (DoIT) in association with OCAC and Elets Technomedia .The event was presented by leading ICT magazines eGov , Digital Learning, & eHealth. Minister Information Technology Pratap Kesari Deb, Director General STPI and others spoke on the occasion, while Madhu Sudan Padhi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary DoIT coordinated the entire show, The one-day event brought together more than 400 delegates from all tiers of Government, ICT industry, academia, development agencies from Odisha and all across the country. which was attended 400 plus delegates. The State Government is committed to creating an open environment to attract investment from IT/ESDM industries and foreign investors, said Chief Minister. Stating that the State Government has prepared a Road Map for development of ESDM sector in the State, Mr.Patnaik said several steps are being taken to build Bhubaneswar as a top IT destination among Tier-II cities in the country. In order to promote such investments, Mr.Patnaik said IT Special Economic Zones (SEZ)s have been established at Infocity and the second one is being established at Infovalley in Bhubaneswar. Further, the Government has brought out a new industry friendly ICT Policy 2014, with a number of incentives to boost the IT/ITES and ESDM sector in Odisha, he said. Stating that IT sector was at the top of his Governments agenda and Odisha has been in forefront in the IT revolution in our country in the past 20 years, Mr.Patnaik said four major IT players, Infosys, TCS, WIPRO and Mahindra Satyam have established their development centres at Bhubaneswar. The IT exports from the State have been very encouraging with Odisha registering an export of more than Rs l,900 crore during the year 2012-13, he said. After establishing Software Technology Parks at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Rourkela, the State Government in collaboration with the Centre has approved establishment of another STPI at Balasore for the benefit of IT entrepreneurs of North Odisha. eOdisha Summit was comprised of parallel thematic track conferences on IT in Governance, IT in Education and IT in Health and the eOdisha Awards platform recognized innovation and excellence in governance, education and healthcare. The awards were conferred in categories like e-Champion of the State, e-Champion of the District, Government to Business (G2B) Initiative, Government to Citizen (G2C) Initiative, Government to Government (G2G) Initiative, ICT Enabled school, ICT enabled Higher Education Institute, ICT in Education Initiative, ICT in Healthcare Initiative, Innovative use of IT and Emerging IT MSME of the year. There were awards for stakeholders at various levels for e-District rollout in the State where seamless services are being provided to citizens for six services( certificates) in over 260 Tehsils across the State. It has been has decided to create a ‘State Resident Data Hub’ at the State Data Centre by utilizing data collected for issuing Unique Identification Number (UID) to residents in the State”, informed Information and Technology Secretary Madhu Sudan Padhi here today. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the annual eOdisha summit here, he said the State Government will set up a big server, State Resident Data Hub (SRDH) to store detailed data of Aadhar card holders including their Aadhar numbers, names, addresses and photographs. The proposed data hub will link all databases of the State Government and this data can be used by the Government in various other schemes, the Secretary stated. The SRDH will eventually help integrate the Aadhaar database with those of other departments, which is vital to the implementation of the DBT scheme. Every application including driving license, LPG number, bank account number, etc will also be linked to the server. Once it is implemented, it will be easy to know about a person’s economic status, profession and other details. Being a web-based solution, industry bodies can participate without any hindrance or entry barriers. They can provide salaries though it, he said. The project has already been started in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bangalore city, Mr.Padhi informed. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will provide Rs 10 crore for the project, he said adding it will be implemented by July this year.
