Of course chokeholds should be banned in all but the most unusual - TopicsExpress

Of course chokeholds should be banned in all but the most unusual threats-of-immediate-mayhem situations! 30 years ago, the Supreme Court dodged this real issue by using a specious no standing in this case ruse. That weaseling out of the true point of the case -- excessive force without due process -- must be confronted. If they are not doing so already, I hope that high-end legal teams and activist support committees in the biggest cities in the U.S. will soon begin planning a coordinated legal campaign to find the right plaintiff and set of circumstances [and there are unfortunately so many from which to choose] to begin another legal challenge to the policy of police using chokeholds in misdemeanor situations and any other policing situations involving unarmed and nonviolent suspects. There are MANY, MANY people -- pro-bono legal eagles, citizen activists, and anonymous funders -- who would surely give their time and support to such an effort. With bows to the late Justice Thurgood Marshall, one of my personal heroes, and to Lee Lipp for posting this link.
