Of course every game in the Premier League is important, but for Manchester United, the away game at Cardiff City at resumption of the Premier League schedule holds extra significance. After an early season slump, somewhat inevitable no doubt after the seismic change of manager at the club, the Reds ran into the international break on a bit of an upswing. It therefore a bit of a tipping point for the club. Go to the Welsh capital and win and the recovery can be well on track, with a title defence gaining credibility. If David Moyess team snuffers a reverse however, doubts about the new regime will re-emerge and the gains of recent games, both in terms of confidence and points, will be diminished. Cardiffs form in their debut season in the Premier League has been solid, and at home they have recorded some outstanding performances, not least the victory over Uniteds cross-city rivals from Eastlands. The game will therefore be no pushover, and any thoughts of a repeat of Uniteds early season visit to Swansea will probably be best disregarded rather rapidly. With Malky Mackays team in fine fettle after their derby triumph over Swansea, United will be in for tough battle. It will certainly be a trest of their mettle and resilience, but in this sort of contest, David Moyes cannot allow his team to come up short.
