Of the people you see succeeding at the gym some, non-zero, percentage of them are juicing. Of the people you see succeeding in academia some, non-zero, percentage of them are on a synthetic stimulant. Of the people you see succeeding in high stress environments some, non-zero, percentage of them are countering the effects of that stress with frequent hard drug abuse. Ergo, you must operate with the assumption that you cannot reach certain levels without artificial assistance and that some non-zero percentage of what you see in the general population operates with artificial assistance a priori (some out of necessity). Not everyone displaying better than you is actually better than you at whatever skill or in whatever arena youre displaying, but not everyone displaying better than you is cheating either.
