Off-campus Internship Opportunity Emerging Civil War, LLC, is looking for an intern to report and write feature stories about Civil War-related news for its blog, emergingcivilwar. With the Civil War’s 150th anniversary about to head into its final months, there’s plenty going on: special events, book releases, preservation projects, and more. Coverage could include feature stories, interviews with authors, and previews of events. No travel required. This is an unpaid internship that can be done on campus. Knowledge of Civil War history is not necessary, but strong reporting and writing skills are. The writer will work one on one with Dr. Mackowski, who serves as editor-in-chief of Emerging Civil War and who will oversee the internship. The writer will also have the opportunity to work with some of todays leading experts, historians, and authors working in Civil War history. Strong networking opportunities exist for potential paid internships and jobs in publishing and in history-related journalism. ECW, one of the premier sites about the Civil War on the web, reaches tens of thousands of readers each month. Along with the blog, ECW has its own book series published through Savas Beatie, the largest independent publisher of Civil War books; it promotes a speakers bureau that sends historians to Civil War groups around the country; and it sponsors an annual symposium, covered last year by C-SPAN.
