Off my most recent Mr. Sci-Fi video, someone asked, Why do you - TopicsExpress

Off my most recent Mr. Sci-Fi video, someone asked, Why do you think you will get good art from Artists who you advise to pay little? My response: You misunderstand me. I hugely value everyone who works with me. But if Im working with a low budget, I cant pay the big-budget studio rates my friends (such as Iain McCaig, who just worked designing Rocket Raccoon) normally command. In that case, I pay what I can and they come aboard because they know the film will be of high quality, something well worth doing. Its the same for myself, in that regard. Im doing Space Command for no salary. If I paid myself my normal studio/network rate, there would be no money to make the film. In the end -- and I plan to talk about this in a future video -- theres more to life than money. We all need to pay the bills, and Im not dismissive of this. But for all of us in the artistic community -- actors, writers, directors, designers -- we want to be part of work thats meaningful, that moves people and stands the test of time. All of us are in this business because different films and TV shows had great meaning to us, made us who we are, were responsible for shaping the best part of ourselves. We want to continue that tradition, it helps bring meaning to our lives. Anyway, thats a more complete answer. By paying little, I meant no disrespect. In a perfect world, our most brilliant work would command the highest paycheck. Sadly, thats rarely the case. But I know in my own life -- especially looking back -- its not the money Ive made thats meant the most to me... its the fine work Ive done and the people Ive loved. All best, Marc
