Off the Japanese coast they have man-made islands. They take sand and dirt from hte mountains and bring it to the ocean and keep dumping it until it rises above sea level.... and then build docks all over it. But during an earthquake one time the water-saturated land cracked open and the muddy water came bursting from the ground flooding everything. I would not trust a man-made piece of land like that.
