Office of the President and Chancellor 19 November 2013 TO : The Academic Community FR : Br. Ricky P. Laguda FSC President and Chancellor RE : DLSU Give Back Day on 21 November The news on the extent of the devastation and loss brought about by Typhoon Yolanda continue to come in as communication systems are restored. As of the last report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the death toll has been placed at 3,982 individuals with another 1,602 reported missing. A total of 2.2 million families from 44 provinces have been affected by this unprecedented calamity, with the damage estimated to cost P11.7 billion. On 21 November, Thursday, we celebrate the Feast of Marys presentation and the pronouncement of the Heroic Vow by St. John Baptist de la Salle, Br. Nicolas Vuyart FSC and Gabriel Drolin. The Heroic Vow made in 1691 marks the roots of our core values of faith, service and communion in mission. While COSCA and DLSPs relief operations have received much support from the community, including our alumni and generous friends, it becomes clearer, as days go by, that those affected will need a bit more of our support, a little bit longer. To celebrate the Heroic Vow and for a stronger show of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in need, everyone is asked to contribute something - whether it be volunteering time in relief operations and fund-raising efforts, or donating your salary for the day, or doing something creative - on 21 November. Other initiatives include - - #TulongThursday initiative by the students, including a room-to-room fund-raising drive - donation via salary deduction facilitated by the Office of Personnel Management and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Resource and Development (form may be downloaded at tinyurl/dlsudonate) - donation of a percentage of their revenues that day by La Casita Roja, Pericos, MTO Bookstore, Coffee Bean and Teal Leaf, Infinitea, Queggs atbp, Red Hot Chili Brothers, Litos sandwiches, and all Animo Biz kiosks. - pooling of donations in cash or in kind by office - relief repacking at DLSU North Conservatory from 9 am - 10 pm. May Jesus forever live in our hearts as we continue to help the last, the lost and the least.
