*** Official Statement *** In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.. All praise be to Allah, and the peace and blessings be upon his final Prophet and Messenger. We bear witness and testify that there is no God worthy of worship but Allah, and that Mohammad -peace be upon him- is his servant and final messenger. It has broke our hearts, upset us, and left us in shock, the news that we heard late last night about a young boy that was shot to dead by the authorities of this country in the streets of Melbourne. This news has left the Muslim community in total shock and understood anger, as a normal young teen, 18 years of old, was killed by the Police who are supposed to be providing safety and security to the citizens of this country. Depending on the news that reached us, this boy was a normal good practicing young Muslim youth, with great character and kind moral. He was an average normal youth who spent his time hanging out with his friends, attending local mosques, and doing what every other youth does. Yet, he was categorized as a terrorist by this deceiving unjust government, and considered a threat to the local community. We understand that the local authorities had canceled the passport of this young boy for no reason, keeping him a captive in his own country for no valid purpose. We also understand that the police visited or raided his house (not clear yet) as he was hanging out with some friends in Hungry Jacks, just hours before his death. According to his friends, he received a call from his parents informing him that the Police had been in the house and searched his room. Upon hearing this, the young boy got mad and called up the local Police station, questioning why his privacy had been violated (without a warrant from what we have heard) and this lead to an argument with them on the phone. The Police then requested him (or forced him) to come in for a brief meeting or questioning - according to them. His friends tried to talk him out of going to the Police station, but he said that he had nothing to hide or be afraid of, and so he went. Unfortunately, our young brother went alone to meet with these ambiguous Police men, the violators of his privacy, and it is still unknown the details of what happened then. What we are sure of though, is that he was murdered in cold blood, right in front of a Police station, in front of a place that is supposed to be providing security and comfort to our youth. We extend our prayers and deep condolences to the family of Numan, our young brother whom we love for the sake of Allah, and we ask Allah -azza wa jall- to have mercy on his soul, and to admit him to Paradise. We ask Allah to grant his family calm and patience as they undergo this sad, heartbreaking experience, an experience that no family should go through. This boy was not a casualty of an armed heist, nor was his death the result of some drug deal that went wrong, rather he was killed by the same people who are supposed to be protecting this country. We still ask and wonder, why deadly force was immediately used against a teenager, who was provoked in the first place and forced in to such a situation. I address the Australian community, the Muslims and non Muslims when I say that the government will do its best to frame this young kid as a terrorist. They will use all their efforts and resources to brand his a threat to the community, but we must not forget that he was nothing but an average teenager who once again, fell victim to Police brutality and murder. What type of threat could an 18 year old pose to this country?! All legal means must be taken, in order to know the truth of what happened in that secret meeting between the boy and those Police officers, and we must not give up until justice is served. The Abbot government has succeeded in creating division amongst our community based on religion. When this community was once living in peace and harmony together, we now see the racial attacks on a group of citizens based on their religion and race. Not only that, but the government and its authorities represented by the ASIO, AFP, and local police are also trying to divide the Muslims themselves into radical and moderate Muslims, to further spark division and widen the gap between the Muslims and others from this community. The ASIO and local police are constantly harassing and disturbing the Muslim youth, by repeatedly visiting them for no valid purpose, and attempting to intimidate and compel them into revealing their won private information, or information about other Muslims in their community. If the youth fail to give in to their intimidation, these authorities then begin another intimidation tactic of visiting their parents, knocking on their homes, and causing once again, division and terror in their own households. These intimidating and provoking tactics, and others, are what cause our youth to feel unbalanced, vulnerable, and always under threat and constant question, whether by the authorities or their families. It is these tactics practiced by our authorities that provoke and push our youth over the edge, and may result in them resolving to leash their anger and frustration through uncalculated means. Once this happens, the government then jumps in to kill them, and then frame them as terrorists in order to deceive the community in believing that this country is under some kind of dangerous threat, when the only source of danger to our community is the authorities themselves. Once again, our prayers go to this young boy and his family, that Allah have mercy on him, and grant his family abundant reward and patience. We hope that this incident will be a wake up call to our community, especially the leaders and human rights activists, in order to put and end to the intimidation and terror caused by the authorities. We can only wonder, if a young boy was shot and killed today for no reason, how many lives would we lose after the new laws are passed and ASIO are granted the permission to shhot anyone they consider a threat. I also take the time to urge our community to remain calm and reasonable, as we dont want to give the authorities another excuse to murder yet more of our youth, and we ask Allah to grant us justice and patience. We must demand for the rights of our brother, until justice is served to his killers, but we must exercise reason and wisdom in doing so, not to lose anymore precious lives. May Allah keep you all safe, and may he ease our affairs.. Ameen
