Official response to this mornings Ft Worth Star Telegram article regarding third-party candidates: There is a disturbing and sinister narrative that is perpetuated by proponents of the two major parties at roughly the same time in the autumn each election year: that third party candidates will somehow “steal” votes from their behemoth counterparts. It is as if Rs and Ds “own” those votes simply by gracing the electorate by showing up on the ballot. It is as if your allegiance is owed to parties who have consistently shown to you that your interests are not important, or even acceptable. Your vote, Texas Voter, belongs to you and to you alone. The big parties believe that they own you, Texas Voter. And they treat you thusly. When was the last time a “small-government” Texas Republican lessened the size and scope of government intervention in your life? When was the last time a “civil rights” Texas Democrat ever recognized all of the rights you have simply from being a human being? Could the answer be, never? Under both Republicans and Democrats taxes are perpetually raised, people are erroneously jailed for victimless crimes, and more of your money is funneled to cronies or simply lost into the unknown ether. Under both parties. The behemoth parties do not own your vote and you do not owe it to them, Texas Voter. If you worry that voting for a third party will assist the “other team” in getting into office, why? The results are always the same when an R or a D is elected: more rules about how you can and cant spend your own money and more rules about what you can and cant do with your own body. More rules. Always. More rules. Because they think that they own you. They dont.
