Ogun 2015: PPN ex-guber candidate leads scores to LP. No fewer than nine lawmakers in Ogun State stormed the Labour Party Secretariat in Adatan area of Abeokuta, yesterday, where the registration exercise of the new members of the party held to announce their defection to the party. The defectors, who included two federal lawmakers and seven state assembly members, were formerly members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN. The lawmakers who defected were, a member of the House of Representatives who represents Yewa South/Ipoia constituency, Abiodun Akinlade; his counterpart from Imeko-Afon/Yewa North constituency, Rasaki Adewusi and former Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly of Assembly, Remmy Hassan, representing Odogbolu constituency; Samson Onademuren, representing Ijebu North-East and Khadihat Adeleye-Oladipo representing Ifo constituency 11, were members of the defunct ACN before their defection. Also on the list of the defectors were, Joseph Adegbesan, representing Ijebu North; Simeon Adeleye from Imeko-Afon and John Obafemi, from Remo North, all members of the PPN before they announced their defection to the Labour Party, while Abiodun Akovoyon from Ipokia, who was a member of the PDP, was among the defectors. Apart from the lawmakers a, former governorship candidate of the PPN, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, also defected to the Labour Party in the state. The ceremony also witnessed the inaugurationof some steering committees to run the affairsof the party. Addressing the faithful, the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Dr. Joseph Akinlaja, pledged that the party would turn around the socio-political status of the state by 2015. Akinlaja noted that the party had been in existence in the state with little strength, insisting that it is waxing stronger. He added that the coming together of members of the defunct ACN, PPN and PDP would bring about total change which the people desired. Akinlaja also urged members of the party to come out en- mass and register with the party from the ward to the state levels. He said, “The event of today is a very big step towards administering Ogun State from 2015. We still need more people in the party, so all of us should go to our various wards and start the process of how our great party will oust the present administration in the state.”
