Oguta rerun: Arrest Uzodinma, Ihedioha now, groups demand Two groups have demanded for the arrest and prosecution of two federal legislators from Imo State for allegedly violating the Electoral Act during the botched assembly rerun poll in Oguta State Constituency. The rerun poll held on Saturday, June 29, 2013. It was however declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The groups, Imo Progressive Forum (IPF) and Imo Youths Network (IYN) stated that the presence of Senator Hope Uzodinma and Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives in Oguta during the rerun poll clearly violated the Electoral Act. They therefore demanded that the duo be arrested and prosecuted for this alleged electoral malfeasance. In separate statements signed by Barrister Igbokwe Jude, president of IPF and Dr. Amaiwu Nwankwo for IYN, the groups lambasted the two lawmakers for their presence in Oguta, insisting that they should not be allowed to get away with it. The groups described the legislators’ presence in Oguta on the poll day as an affront on the constitution of the country and regretted that they could violate the law with impunity in spite of being lawmakers. In a swift reaction, the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha explained that he was in Oguta on the poll day following a distress call informing him of break-down of law and order. According to him, he had to race to Oguta after the distress call to ensure the restoration of peace. Speaking through his media aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu, the Deputy Speaker accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) administration in Imo State led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha of manipulating the poll and unleashing mayhem on the area. The governor had gone ahead to announce poll results when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the poll inconclusive. Onyeukwu expressed surprise that the groups should call for the arrest of his boss and that of Senator Uzodinma when they should be demanding for the arrest of the governor and his henchmen. The media aide stated that his happiness is that the authorities had taken note of what happened in Imo State on the poll day and would soon make their findings public.
