Oh God, O dear, woe is me etc! I find myself agreeing with an item, possibly two of UKIPs policy as currently expressed by NIgel Farage (there are some significant provisos in what I have just said if you read the small print.) I am 99% Pacifist (NB I am probably not 100% anything), yet Nefarious Nigel is saying much the same as I am saying about the proposals of our government to do some more bombing in Iraq. He approaches it from a military position, I approach it from a pacifist position and we bump into one another in the middle. I am well aware that NF (note the initials) cannot be trusted, and that if it were a matter of bombing gays he would probably do so, but our uncomfortable convergence could mean that were are right. I also think he could be right about income tax. It depends on the detail. I think that one way of making life easier for the low paid and those paid not much more than the low paid (the struggling classes) would be to take them out of income tax. What I would want to see is that further up the scale those at the top and those not far from the top should pay income tax at higher rates. In other words I am in favour of wealth redistribution. The gap between rich and poor in the UK in general (though not so much in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) could be wider than it has ever been since Lloyd Georges Peoples Budget of 1909, and that is critically dangerous for the health, peace and security of our society. I am well aware that NF is after working class and indeed left wing votes, as was Hitler in this stage of his career, and that if any UKIP members are elected at the next General Election their natural allies would be the most right-wing of the Tories. Indeed a Conservative/UKIP coalition is not beyond the bounds of possibility with our stupid first-past-the-post system. They only need to get a handful of seats to help the Tories to stay in power. The rest is history, as they say.
