Oh, I love this. I was so blessed to go through this experience with my mom with my dad by my side. He has never met a stranger and thanks to his outgoing personality we were able to get to know just about every family on the 8th floor - the staff (not just by name) - then again at Madonna - the families there became our friends. Not that I am shy and bashful - everything had changed and I was exhausted and was being selfish - prior to that I could talk to anyone - but was finding it hard to even talk to family at this time - I think if I didnt have to say a word I would have been ok with that. I fount = it doesnt take much to get to know people - especially when they are going through a traumatic life change it is sometimes easier to talk to strangers than family - those who know exactly what you are going through. One of the huge lessons I have learned is to always say more than just hello when you are passing someone - adding that extra how are you or where are you from can go a long way. If it wasnt for my dad I dont think I would have met the amazing families we did at UNMC. Praying for you all - all the time!!!
