Oh, Sorry! I mistakenly thought that swimsuit shopping was universally shitty for ALL women. I didnt realize there were rules about which women are allowed to commiserate and which are not. For the record, I know women who wear 22s who LOVE their bodies and I know size 2s who HATE their bodies. I have struggled with eating disorders for most of my life, I have had three babies, I have a lovely array of stretch marks, a small rack, a wide ass, and I seem to have inherited some kind of cottage-cheese-from-hip-to-knee disease. Yes, I do have in *impressive* thigh gap, thank you for noticing. I know bow legs are all the rage today, but I was teased endlessly about it as an adolescent. Not to mention? Those toes. Ugh. It has taken me decades to feel comfortable in my own skin - and for the most part, I do, flaws and all - but, guess what, ladies... I STILL HATE TRYING ON SWIMSUITS. I know. Shoot me. I still compare myself to fitter, younger, smoother women. I still kick myself for not having cared for my body as well as I should have all winter. I still feel cringey when Im standing nearly naked in a harshly lit dressing room with a mirror showing me my ass in another mirror. Thats just cruel, man. But now I know better than to express my discomfort. Thank you for that, friends. Ive learned my lesson. ....May offer one small suggestion, though? Maybe next time you see a sister with her insecurity blazing like the sun, you could just tell her you get it. Tell her youve been there. Tell her you *know*. Instead of no sympathy or quit whining or youre crazy, maybe you could try me, too. Nothing imparts courage and Grace quite like a heartfelt Me, too.
